Meditation (Muk Yum)

Meditation is a practical guide of bringing about ethical and meditative discipline in the Do Jang and eventually to all of ones life. There are 3 categories and 8 "limbs" of meditation.

A. Wisdom
1. Right view: Being optimistic, understanding of others.

2. Right intention: Being open to self improvement, becoming a better person, being more committed spiritually, goodwill.

B. Ethical conduct
3. Right speech: Being courteous in our speech to our fellow students in the Do Jang, no matter what. No jeering, teasing or hostile speech.

4. Right action: Being helpful to our Instructor(s) and fellow students when needed. Never be lazy.

5. Right livelihood: Coming into the studio with a clean clothing and clean body, inside and out. We do not use alcohol, cigarettes, drugs or unhealthy practices.

C. Mental discipline
6. Right effort: Staying focused on doing each Tang Soo Do technique as correctly as possible at all times. Not participating in horseplay or trickery.

7. Right mindfulness: Leaving our problems of the world behind, in our shoes, when we come into the Do Jang. Listening at all times to the Instructor and not being distracted.

8. Right concentration: Clearing the mind to “No Thought” as we sit in mediation posture. Starting with a fresh slate. If done in full concentration long enough, complete and utter peace can be achieved.
