Sparring

A. Regulations
Students are required to begin sparring after they test for 8th Gup. Before a student can spar they must have the following gear approved by their instructor.

Dipped foam protective Head Gear, Hand Gear, Foot Gear, Mouth Guard, cup and supporter for boys and a sports bag to carry it to and from class in.

Shin Guards and chest protector (for girls) are recommended but are not required.

B. Rules
There will be no sparring without an instructor or an adult Black Belt present.

Students must be wearing all required gear in order to spar.

The instructor will determine the length and frequency of the matches.

There will be ABSOLUTELY no contact to the back, joints, face or below the belt when sparring.

Students may use only their hands and feet when sparring. Elbow, knee strikes and head-butts are not allowed.

There will be no grabbing while sparring.

There will be no throws, sweeps or takedowns during sparring.

Students should not turn their back to avoid being hit while sparring.

C. Equipment

Bag Gloves – these are different from sparring gloves and will keep your knuckles and wrists safe for target workouts. These are required and should be brought to every class.
Targets for home practice. We recommend each student purchase a striking shield and a hand target to practice their kicks at home. This is not a requirement, however students that practice kicking at home do better in class.

Sparring Gear- At Purple Belt the student is required to spar in class to progress to the next rank. Therefore, at Purple Belt Sparring Gear is a requirement and it should be brought to every sparring class.
